Last night and today have been horrible. The chest drain moved and caused a lot of pain, breathing difficulties , discharge and sleepless nights for both of us. Today his chest was gurglng with escaping air and no one around to do anything about it as the surgeon was away and the duty doctor was not a chest specialist. However he was told this was not life threatening and to keep calm. He managed a shower but it exhausted him. This set Malcolm back as he was scared to move and became helpless for a while. I even fed him his tea as he felt so weak. He became an invalid in a short while. I then went for my tea and when I returned an hour later the gurgling was better and so was Malcolm. The sister was less concerned and felt he would be Ok. The surgeon will see him tomorrow and decide what to do then. The drain was clearer and so we felt it may be removed soon and the hole stitched up to stop any leakage of air. If he moves from his side or goes to the loo then the hissing and gurgling starts again. So not moving is the key to a better night. We can but wait and see.
More tomorrow.
Liz tell the seals not to worry.
Hi Beryl,
Sound like you both had an awful night and day, like tooth ache it always happens at weekend, when there is no dentist around. He obviously does not need to see me today, do will call when I get back from Suffolk.
Kind Regards
Steve.
