Tomorrow’s the day for the Doctor’s meeting.  Then apparently they ring me.  Could be Friday PM, but more likely Monday.

I cracked the last software bug in the system I’ve been supporting (a WorldPay callback wot didn’t work) and it gets released tomorrow. Continue reading »

I tried the salmon again today, this time in with the dreaded soup I’ve been living on.  More pain, and very bad for about 15 minutes. Conclusion, no more salmon. But we did get a prescription from the doctor for all sorts of really nourishing liquid food.  I can’t think why that didn’t fill me with joy. Anyway the Pharmacist didn’t have it in stock. Fortunately Beryl had shot a wild haggis , so I dined on Haggis and Baked Beans whilst the others had  Haggis, roast potatoes with Spanish sausage, and roasted Mediterranean veg. Continue reading »

It’s not that I never want to eat soup. It’s just that you can have too much of it. Soup for breakfast, soup for lunch, soup for dinner.

I do have some alternatives.  One of our foreign English Learners made a brilliant paella, which I managed to eat in small doses, and I can eat little pots of gooseberry fool etc, and I can eat white chocolate till I get sick. Continue reading »

I had my scan today.  A friend came with me and my wife, so she could hold any hands that needed holding. Thank you.

The scan was quick and efficient.  Several scans with a ghastly radio-opaque stuff to drink and an injection into my arm, then we came home.

When we got back there was an answerphone message waiting from Dr Y (the man with the camera who found the cancer).   I rang him back, and then he rang me back, until we finally established contact and he gave me the results of the biopsy. Continue reading »

I got fed up with soup and Shepherd’s pie, so I tried to eat some chicken, broccilli and mashed potatoes.

Just a small helping, but a big mistake.  The pain around the cancer was very bad for about 30 minutes.  In the middle of it a colleague who’s taking over one project rang up with a query about the date functions in the template we use. I had to apologise and ring him back afterwards.

A friend from Germany rang as well, and said some very nice things about me. So did the people at church this morning, and several other people who rang up.

That left me feeling a bit uptight, and after the pain had finally gone I cracked up and burst into tears.

Then I washed my face, readjusted my public expression , and got on with sorting out the handover of my remaining projects, and writing ths blog.

I can’t wait until tomorrow and the scan.

I’ve spent the last 48 hours giving up my work.  If this is what it takes to retire from work, I’m not sure I want to do it again.  It’s too much effort.

Some projects I had not really started.  They are easy. Some I got to a reasonable handover state, that’s not so bad, some I can finish in the next day or so. (Yes “D” – you will have your sales reports). Continue reading »

It’s now 28 hours since the doctor told me I have cancer.

He’s put me on fast track analysis of the biopsies and for a scan. I should hear tomorrow or Monday. After that a panel will discuss the best treatment.

So we went home. My wife contacted our friends and I emailed my clients. Continue reading »
