The GP gave me a throat spray for the sore throat, which worked. But this morning I had white spots all over my mouth.

So I rang The Christie at 07:30, expecting an answerphone and got the nurse who had come in early.  She diagnosed Thrush, a fungal infection, and told me to go direct to the GP and get some nystatin.

So I did, and she saw me, and I got the prescription, and it’s working.  I tilt my head backwards so my mouth points upwards and  squirt a dropper full of medicine into my mouth. Then I’ve got to swish it around for as long as I can.  This isn’t too bad, and the symptoms are going down fast,  which is a relief, it was unpleasant.

One detail does worry me though.  Thrush also occurs elsewhere in the body, although as a male I can’t catch it.

But presumably the treatment must be similar, and presumably administered in a similar way. I have not had the courage to ask the obvious questions.

Do they have to stand on their heads while administering the treatment?  How do they swish it about?

Please don’t tell me!   Some things are just too much information.

But one other piece of good news. According to the GP, my white blood cell count, and the other indicators, are all either good or above average.  And that 5 days after the chemo. Far better than I expected!!

15 days to go to the end of chemo!  And counting.

  3. Just found Calon Lan! Really great – Merfyn (dyed-in-wool Welsh speaker, learned English aged 7+) says it’s excellent and as good as you’d get anywhere! He’s very impressed with your Welsh letter-writing too! Glad the thrush is abating 🙂 God bless! Katie

    • My mother’s family came from Wales, although they did not speak the language. We learned it at night school in Manchester and also at Nant Gwertheyrn.

I like it as a language, it’s got power and eloquence.

      • You also had Teach Yourself Welsh out of Levenshulme Library for fourteen years; you just kept renewing it!

  4. Quite a different application technique Malcolm!
