Thanks to all the people who sent me insults.  I feel much better now, and I will keep taking the dried frog pills.  (That’s a Discworld joke, for the uninitiated.)

Meanwhile I’ve been putting up more stuff on this website.  If you go to Stories and True Life you can see some of the scrapes I’ve got myself into over the 50 years I’ve worked in IT.  These stories are all true, honestly, even the one about the White Witch and how I ended up handling my own dismissal from the contract for incompetance.  I’ve changed names and suchlike to conceal who it really was, but that’s all.

Actually I felt quite nostalgic looking back at those stories.  Those were the days of my far-off youth, well far-off middle age actually, but never mind.

So I hope people enjoy these stories, and if anyone recognises themselves in any story, don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.

Meanwhile I’m waiting for the operation.  Less than 2 weeks now.  The injection to my ankle has worked and I’m doing the physio which is helping my knees.

Oh and I had a phone call from “BT Internet Tech Support”, who wanted to notify me that they had detected some malware viruses being down loaded and wanted to help me get rid of them.   It’s an old scam.  They actually make you open up your PC so they can take it over completely.  My usual course of action is to rattle a few keys on the PC, (without actually doing anything), then say in a shocked manner that my system had frozen.  They then waste a lot of time trying to tell me how to fix my PC, so they can load their own malware.  I usually let it go on for a while, till I get bored.  Then I end it by bursting into tears and demanding to speak to their supervisor because “you’ve broken my PC.”

The special thing with this call was when he “proved he was genuine” by giving the “Computer Certification ID” of my PC, (888 DCA60-FC0A).  This is a quite a clever move. What he is actually quoting is some obscure PC command which always returns this string, on all PC’s.  But it sounds good.

Anyway I explained that I could not access my PC just now (I was too busy enjoying sprawling out in front of the fire), could I ring back.  And he actually gave me a phone number.  So I passed it to the police at actionfraud.police.uk.  Then I finished my snooze.
