I promised a blog post about the darker days in the MRI, but this happened first, …
I met the specialist nurse yesterday. Here’s the feedback:
- The 5 year survival rate is 20-40%. This is because of secondaries. The best way to get the secondaries is to complete the second chemo course. Most people don’t. This may be regarded as an incentive to eat and keep my weight up.
- For this reason the feeding tube stays in, even if it’s a pain in the neck. However it does not need any plaster over it.
- I can knock off the painkiller any time I feel able.
I’ve done some more research into the painkiller. Amogst other things it’s a constipative and it makes you sleepy and a nausea inducer and suppresses appetite. I’m going to try knocking them off now, as I’ve now had too many days lost with lassitude and with sitting on the throne. That includes today and yesterday, which is why the shortage of posts.
So it’s less tablets tonight, and see how I am in the morning.
Malcolm, even if it was only a 2 year survival rate there is a big possibility that advances in treatment will come along during that time and make the odds much better for you.
Keeping you in my prayers for a full recovery. Rosie
