This should have been a long blog, full of stuff about dealing with pain and fear (or not dealing with it).

Instead it’s an apology, I lost today to a migraine.

It started on Wednesday, with a normal migraine, which I blocked as normal with sumatriptan.

Then I had another on Thursday, and blocked that one.

Then just past midnight Friday morning I started another headache.  The GP had expressed concern about taking too many sumatriptan, so I decided to get advice before taking one.

It took till 2pm to get a medic to look at me (nothing can be done over the phone).  The result was 2 sessions of vomitting, the worst in 20 years, and the whole day lost.  I started to come out of it about 6pm.

What I should have done was to check the leaflet in the box of sumatriptan.  My mistake!

Afterthought

I think the real problem is that everyone is now so concerned not to do owt wrong, that they insist on full checks before taking any action.  I can understand this, but sometimes that means the patient suffers longer before any treatment can be given.  Everything has a cost, and extra checks come with a price.  Whether that price is worth it, is something I don’t want to comment on.

The big question is, will I have another one tonight?  4am the answer is no so far, but I can’t sleep.  This may be due to coming off the painkiller (oxycodone – a strong opiode). Side effects include “Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep”.   It’s also a class A drug (7 years for possession) and the stuff they gave Hitler, which gives food for thought.  How long does cold turkey last?

  2. How long does cold turkey last?

We usually get fed up with it long before it goes off! IGMC!

  3. So i I have been living with a drug addict have I? Seriously cold turkwey is not fun and if Malcolm goes through shakes and shivers and hot flushes and sickness only beng on then for 5 weeks think of what true addicts go through. it is horrible. It will take about 3 weeks to wean him off the opiate but he does not have 3 week before the chemo starts and he must be stronger than he is for this next session. Help.
